GMC canyon

Whether you’re looking to go off-roading or simply want a midsize truck for getting around town and handling some hefty work, the 2024 GMC Canyon is a terrific choice. Just last year, GMC launched an all-new generation for the Canyon with a significant redesign, and it keeps getting better. If you are looking for a GMC Canyon for sale, you probably already know how impressive this truck is, but you might have discovered that you have many more options to consider than you realized.

Your most significant decision will likely be choosing between the four available trims, which becomes much easier once you get a sense of what each offers. Beyond that, you have more things to consider, such as whether you want the incredible AT4X AEV Edition newly available for the 2024 model year. Let’s look at the things you should think about and decide on to help you pick the truck that’s perfect for you.

A Few Simple Considerations

Before we dig into the four trim levels available for the 2024 GMC Canyon, we thought reviewing some essential items to consider would be helpful. Every Canyon comes with the same engine: a 2.7L TurboMax that delivers 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. This engine makes the Canyon incredibly rewarding to drive, handling plenty of towing and payload capacity. Similarly, every Canyon is the same size, so you don’t have to choose whether you want more room inside the cab for your passengers.

The final point we want to note is that almost every 2024 Canyon features four-wheel drive (4WD) for incredible traction and performance. With the starting Elevation model, you can choose between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, but otherwise, 4WD is standard on every Canyon model. Considering how much 4WD improves the experience of driving this truck, we love this decision by GMC’s engineers, and even if you’re interested in the standard features, we strongly suggest choosing a 4WD model to get the most from this truck. Let’s check out the four trims and determine what separates them.

The 2024 GMC Canyon Elevation

The first thing we should note with the Elevation is that even though this is the base trim for the Canyon, its standard features put many other vehicles to shame. You find 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires with a CornerStep rear bumper that makes accessing the bed easy, LED projector headlamps, and LED tail lamps. Power-adjustable side mirrors are easy to use, and you get a remote-locking tailgate for an extra touch of security. Overall, it looks stunning and is a great place to start if you’re not looking for the added features of the higher trims.

Inside, the Elevation features a gorgeous 11.3-inch GMC Premium Infotainment system with Google built-in, along with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This comes with a six-speaker sound system and an 11-inch color Driver Information Center display, plus numerous USB ports.

You’ll find comfortable cloth seating inside the Elevation model, with a six-way adjustable driver’s seat and keyless entry and start. With Canyon Pro Safety, you get great forward collision alert with automatic emergency brakes and lane departure warning, all of which are standard.

The 2024 GMC Canyon AT4

If you’re interested in taking your GMC Canyon off-road, you owe it to yourself to check out the AT4, which gives you elevated performance on the trail. First and foremost, the AT4 features an off-road suspension with a wide stance for improved performance and a two-inch factory lift to improve ground clearance and maneuverability while off-road.

The AT4 has an Autotrac 2-speed transfer case and an automatic locking rear differential to improve traction in slippery conditions. Inside, you’ll find an eight-way power driver’s seat with heated front seats perfect for chilly winter mornings or going off-roading up in the mountains.

The 2024 GMC Canyon Denali

The AT4 is excellent for hitting the trail. However, if premium luxury is what you’re after with your GMC Canyon, you need to check out the Denali. This should come as no surprise since Denali has been a legendary name in the auto industry for many years and continues to live up to this remarkable legacy.

On the outside, we find gorgeous 20-inch Diamond Cut Dark Grey aluminum wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, plus five-inch Denali chrome assist steps that make it easier to get in and out of the GMC Canyon. This model has a spray-on bedliner, chrome mirror caps and door handles, an EZ-Lift and Lower tailgate, and more.

The Denali shines in the interior, starting with a seven-speaker Bose premium sound system and a wireless charging pad. You get perforated leather-appointed seats in the Canyon Denali with ventilated and heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and power driver and front-passenger seats.

The Denali has a 6.3-inch multicolor head-up display that projects information onto your windshield, adaptive cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and more. If luxury and comfort are at the top of your list, this is the GMC Canyon for you.

The 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X

If you want the ultimate combination of off-road performance and luxury, then the GMC Canyon AT4X is designed to take things further than ever before. The AT4X has an ultra-wide stance, a three-inch factory lift for incredible ground clearance, and a bold and aggressive look. Inside, you’ll find many of the same great features as the Denali, such as the Bose premium sound system, perforated leather-appointed seats, and more. All of this comes together to create a truck that beautifully blends exquisite luxury with rugged off-road engineering in a way few other trucks come close to.

One of the most exciting things about the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X is the new AEV Edition. Developed in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), a leader in aftermarket off-road and overlanding vehicles, the AEV Edition includes several exciting upgrades and unique touches, such as five AEV hot-stamped boron steel skid plates to protect the underside of the truck. It features 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels wrapped in massive 35-inch MT tires for incredible clearance and traction, plus AEV-stamped steel front and rear bumpers for added protection on the trail.

Find the Truck You’ve Been Looking For

As you can see, you can’t go wrong with any of these impressive GMC Canyon models. Choosing the best model for you depends on what features you want and need. The standard features of the Elevation are perfect for a wide range of drivers, particularly if you’re not looking to do some serious off-roading and don’t need the advanced luxury or tech features of something like the Denali. If you want to conquer the trail and head to remote destinations that many trucks aren’t up for, then the AT4 or AT4X models are the way to go—the AT4X AEV Edition, in particular, is one we’re incredibly excited about this year. With so many fantastic models, it can still be tricky to pick the one with everything you want, so it helps to work with a dealership that puts your needs first.
